Spectacle lenses

At the start of the 13th century, crystals were used as lenses to improve visual acuity. Initially only convex lenses were available, primarily to help people read and write again. Only in the mid-15th century did the idea of using concave lenses to aid short-sighted people emerge. Today, spectacle lenses are available in a wide variety of types and materials.
